Sempron of AMD left in June 2004, they replace Athlon XP.
Except the 3100+, Sempron use same the socket (socket A - also call 462) that Athlon XP. In practice, you can replace Athlon XP by Sempron, possibly after a flashage of the BIOS. At equivalent speed, the SEMPRON are a little less powerful than Athlon XP. The comparison between Sempron and Athlon is thus fast.
